OFFICE
GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONGKONG, 30th January, 1928.
Sir,
The question of augmenting the water supply
of the Island of Hong Kong has for same time been receiving
the consideration of this Government. Despite the extensive
development of the Colony's Reservoir system, which has been
made in recent years, it has not been possible even to keep abreast of the demand, and during periods of drought the
supply has always been precarious and the cause of much
anxiety; in fact, it has been possible to give a full
continuous supply to the City during only three of the past
20 years.
2.
For many years about ninety per cent of the
water supply of the City of Victoria has been drawn fran
Reservoirs in the Tytan Valley, which is on the south side
of the Island. This water is delivered through a tunnel to
the north side of the Island at the eastern end of the City,
and is carried along in the Bowen Road Conduit to feed the
Eastern, Bowen Road, and Albany Filter Stations. Fra the
end of the Boven Road Conduit at the Albany Filter Station
a composite 18" & 12" dia. cast iron unfiltered water main
carrying Tytam Valley later runs to Elliot Filter Beds, the
most Jesterly City Filter Beds.
