In continuation of my secret despatch of
the 7th February, I have the honour to acknowledge the
receipt of your telegram, dated the 13th March, which
authorizes me to notify ar. Lau Cheuk-pan that I cannot
permit him to function any longer as Superintendent of
the Chinese Telegraph Office in Hong Kong, and that he
must vacate the premises at once and hand over to the
Electrical Engineer of the Hong Kong Public Works
Department, who will temporarily act as custodian.

that the Eastern Extension Telegraph Company should remain
in control of this office under the working agreement with
the Canton authorities and that meanwhile telegraphic
messages between Hong Kong and Canton should be handled by
the Government wireless stations at both ends.

Your telegram reached me two days after my return from an official visit to Marshal Li in Canton. During the course of that visit, on the 10th March, i had
a full discussion with Marshal Li on the subject of the Chinese Telegraph Office in Hong Kong. The report of this discussion is set out on pages 6 to 14 of Enclosure No. 2 in my secret despatch of the 15th March. During the
