BATHING FATALITY.

WARDER DROWNED AT

REPULSE BAY.

distressing bathing fatality occurred at Repulse Bay yester day Doct. The victim WHB1 M. Tuomas Duckworth, a warder of the Victoria Jail. He was one of a party of five warders who went to the popular resort in a motor boat for a swim. None of his companions seemed to miss Duckworth while in the water, and it

returned was after they had

to the boat and were dressing that they realised one of their number was not on board. The party went out in a sainpan to search for Duckworth, and found his body in about seven feet of water. some twenty yards from

the

shore. Dr. Harston who Was at the hotel at the time rendered prompt assistance, but the deceased was beyond human aid. A popular member of the warder's mess, Duckworth's death has cast gloom over his colleagues. The funeral takes place at Happy Valley this evening.

FUNERAL AT HAPPY

VALLEY.

The funeral of the late warder Thomas Duckworth, of Victoria, Gaol, who met his tragic death while bathing with a number of friends at Repulse Bay on Sunday afternoon, took place at Happy Valley last evening. Decessed was only 2 years of age and joined the gaol staff last year. Ho was a native of Coventry.

The bearse which carried the coffin was followed by detachments of European and Indian goal war. ders and members of the European contingent of the Police Force. Mr J. W. Franks, Superintentent of the Prison Department, Chief Warder A. G. Passmore and Principal warders W. Y. Robertson and Buchanan were also present. At the gate of the Protestant Cemetery the coffin, on which were placed the accoutrements of the deceased, was taken out of the hearse and carried to the grave by Bix brother warders, W. Hill, D Goodall, Biane, W. Gardiner, W. The 3. Bagley and B. Plumb. burial service was performed by the Rev. Mr. Holman.

A wealth of beautiful wreatha were heaped on the grave, among them being those from the follow- ing: "From Sid and Bill, European members of the Detec. tires Staff, H.K.P.. Lance- Sergeants.
