GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

NGKONG. 16th September, 1921.

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt

of your Confidentiel despatch of 28th June with regard to the post of Superintendent of the Botanical and Forestry Department in this Colony.

2.

I am greatly obliged to Sir D. Prain for the trouble that he has taken in trying to find a suitable candidate for this appointment but after careful consideration I have come to the conclusion that the best course will be

to promote Mr. Green, whose work has been very satisfactory.

3.

I propose therefore that he should be promoted to be Superintendent as from the date when the post became vecant and I should be glad if an Assistant

A paper Superintendent might be appointed to replace him. of particulars of the post is enclosed,

4.

I should very much like to undertake experimente in growing timber of economic value in the New Territory and I think that it would be a good thing if it could be arranged that a scientifically trained forestry officer should visit the Colony and make a stay of a year or two, during which he would be able to start experiments
