Water Department.

The Municipal Commissioners of Singapore REQUIRE AN ASSISTANT ENGINEER, age 25-35, on a three years Agreement, with possible extension. He must have had a good technical education, a regular training as a Civil Engineer, and have a practical knowledge of Surveying, Levelling, and Estimating, and at least three years' experience in works of Water Supply, including the collection, filtration, pumping and distribution of water, both in the design and in the construction of new works and in ordin- ary maintenance, Experience in the design and maintenance of pumping machinery and mechanical filters is desirable. Preference will be given to an Assistant who has passed the examination of the Institution of Civil Engineers as Associate Member, Inst.C.E. Salary 87,200 for the first, 87800 for the second, and 88,400 for the third year, paid monthly, in dollars, the currency of the Colony, the value of the dollar being two shillings and fourpence sterling. The pay of the appointment for the first year at this rate would be £840. In addition there is at present a temporary allowance of ten per cent. on the Salary. Such local transport allowance as may from time to time be sanctioned by the Commissioners will be paid. Free passage will be provided, with half-pay during the voyage out. The selected candidate must pass e medical examination.
