I am to draw your attention to the following extract from the despatch in which Lord Smutsford informed the Governor of this Colony of your appointment to succeed Mr Price, stating that among other qualifications for the post "you had had considerable experience in Marine Engineering works having been Resident Engineer of the Alexandria Harbour Works before his appointment in Cyprus." This will no doubt be found useful.
A similar remark occurs in the extract from his despatch No 118 of the 28th of May 1889, forwarded in the letter from this Department: 212424 of the 16th of June.
4. I am to add that you should not overlook the fact that you are at present drawing the fourth highest salary in the Colony after the Governor.
