had been made out, has been if anything strengthened by the additional evidence produced.

The case originally came before me on before H. Gy Thomsett, Esquire, 76. noting Police Magistrate, on December 7th, 1883, and on December 18th 1883, they were committed to prison. In accordance with instructions contained in C.SO. No 437 of 1884 the case was re-opened before for the purpose of taking further and fuller evidence in support of the charge against the accused, as also for the taking of any evidence that might be for their defence. Seven witnesses were tendered on behalf of the prisoners, and their evidence does not attempt to directly disprove the charge, but rather sets up a counter charge against Yeung ding-fai and ... others (the persons whose murder the prisoners are now accused of). The prisoners and the persons they are charged with killing are all members of the same clan, and live in the same village.

According to their own evidence the prisoners after having been attacked seem to have left their homes in a body and
