which I have been an
officer for years.
And
had therefore to
acquaint
His Excellency to relieve me from that post:
The
consequence of my transfer here has
been a diminution of my official salary
at the rate
of
£150 per
annum.
His Excellency is aware that for
various reasons the Court's here have
been practically closed during the
greater portion of the time that I
have held office, except for the
transaction of Criminal business,
And it is
quite unnecessary for
me
to remind the Governor of the important
public work
involving
much anxious
consideration in which as being
Attorney General I was necessarily
obliged
to take part.
Under the
circumstances I hope the Governor will
permit
me to draw the unappropriated
portion of
the Attorney General's salary.
Mr Phillippo will probably arrive
on the first proximo
in connection
with this office consequently, I
embrace this opportunity of thanking both His Excellency and yourself for the
kind consideration extended to me in the
due
discharge of the duties of an office so onerous and new; And which I certainly
would have shrunk from
undertaking
had I not felt that I had such experienced guides
to work under;
I have &c &c,
J.
Awdry
Acting Attorney General
Colonial Secretary.
