Hongkong, it would seem to be a convenient opportunity for calling the attention of His Lordship to the subject of the pension of the Puisne Judge of the Supreme Court in that Colony, with respect

to which I am advised that

some directions from His Lordship the Secretary of State for the Colonies should

be obtained.

By Ordinance 13 of 1873 the Supreme Court was established : The only judicial Officers of which are the

Chief Justice, and the Puisne Judge.

I was appointed Puisne Judge of the Court in

May 1874.

By Ordinance 14 of 1873 the then existing Summary

Jurisdiction Court was abolished,

and a summary jurisdiction

to the amount of $1000 conferred on the Supreme Court.

No provision has been made for the pension of the Puisne Judge.

The Chief Justice and the Puisne Judge are placed on exactly the same footing by this Ordinance 13 of 1873 in
