Effects/Illustration

The PRICE at which the quantity demanded equals the quantity supplied and there is no tendency for the Brice to change.

1. When the price is 1 P1, there is excess supply, fi.e. quantity supplied is greater than quantity Gemanded.

2. When price is at Pz, thare is an excess demand.

(1.e quantity demanded is greater than quantity supplied)

(a) The producers would increase the price and increase

production because of greater profitability.

(b). The consumers, seeing an increase in price, would

decrease the quantity demanded.

(c) This continued until the price Po. (the equilibrium

price) is reached..

3. At the equilibrium price, the quantity demanded equals the quantity supplied. There is no tendency for the brice to change..

Conclusion: The interaction of market demsed and market

supply determines the equilibrium price.
