formation of the North. Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATU)
a. The Cold War between the East and West.
after the Second World War - The Cold War was an unarmed but intense rivalry between Soviet Russia and her dependent states in East Europe and the USA and her ellies in West Europe. The two
sides cooperated against Nazi Germany during the war but differences in ideology and power. struggle made them enemies after the war.
Fear of the spread of
communism in West Europe - Making use of the Second World War, Soviet Russia set up many communist states in East Europe. West European countries feared, that communism would spread to their territories. So they thought they should form an alliance of military defence against the East.

The Schuman Plan This brought French: and German coal and steel under a common administration, The purpose was to raise production efficiency.
The European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) in 1951 - This was, a Larger economic community. The members were France, Italy, West Germany, Belgium, Holland and Luxemburg.
The Treaties of Rome in 1957 - The:60 countries of the ECSC. decided to set up the European Economic Community (EEC) or the so-called Common Market through these treaties in 1957.

enjoy free trade with each other. Common agricultural policies are used too. Another aim is to expand the trade between the EEC. and other parts of the. world.
