Describe how the people of Hong Kong: spend their Sunday evenings.
: Most people in Hong Kong consider \Sunday evenings a time for rest. They
sit comfortably in an armchair and laugh heartily whenever a joke occurs on the television screen which they are watching in a leisurely manner.
The day before, Saturday, has given. them so much pleasure and yet been so

exhausting that all they want to do on this day of rest" is to sit back and relax. They can make themselves really at home and un. atmosphere of harmony prevails, throwing such menance as juvenile delinquency all to the back of

To still another group of people. Sunday evenings, far from being a time for relaxation, are driving them mad. Big wedding meals are waiting for them to attend. Social gatherings aiming at. the improvement of relations between one firm and another are nevertheless a precious time for understandings, trade. agreements and other hush-hush affairs to: be arranged, although in. amore castial manner.
Outdoors sees crowded trains. arriving at the railway station, bringing back with them thousands of picnickers. To many of them Sundays are the only days when they can go to the country- side and breathe in some fresh air.
Yer Sunday evenings may also be a time for entertainment or pleasure- seeking for those who are not so fortun- ate us to get an afternoon off on Satur- days.

Let's take a look at the organisation of this descriptive essay.
The first paragraph describes the most common situation on Sunday evenings "a time for rest". The reason for this test is given in the next para graph. A change in tone which suits and reflects the change in the way to spend Sunday evenings is given in the third paragraph. Paragraph four describes those: people who are not on duty in its formal sense but who nevertheless
·have to sacrifice their time for rest in one way or another. Paragraph five. mentions . picnickers and thus a very common activity during holidays. The following paragraph is concerned with
Shopping, to most readers, must mean something feminine, sort of a pastime for the idle woman and little more than a waste of time. To these comments, I cmnpt but agree. But window-shopping, I assure you, is an
you entirely different business.
People call shop-window a silent. advertiser. It appeals to your visual sense. A good design tells a story by itself — no need for any noise blasting at your ears. Design of shop-windows is. really a commercial art. It asks for displaying the products for sale in an attractive and artistic way. Actually, appreciation of this piece of cat and feeling for the message the artists are conveying are what is so fascinating about window-shopping.
I would. compare window-shopping. to going to the museum or art gallery but the enjoyment, I would say, is rather more. This piece of art encom- passes knowledge from many different. fields; basic design techniques, know- ledge of the exhibits and market psy- chology.

In window-shopping, one can have. much satisfaction of one's aesthetic sense. You will be marvelled at how beautiful a piece of goods looks in the shop-window. If you are interested enough, besides just feeling for the message, you can study closely to see what special techniques the designers use to convey the message and you will certainly find much wisdom there,
To feel the touch of a festival atmosphere, I think the best place to visit is shop-windows. Whatever festival it is, Chinese and Western alike, and even when there is only a slight change in weather, shop-windows are always the first to respond.
Window-shopping. makes you feel that you are still living and the earth still revolving in this routinized and mechanized era. Furthermore, you can enjoy as much as you want without any disgusting shopkeeper spying at your back!

Note that it is as much a discussive essay as an argumentative one. However, the title suggests a rather casual treat- ment. It may be wrong to treat this topic in too serious away.
The whole essay is written around the following point (which could, in a sense, summarise it): Design of shop. windows is a persuasive cominercial art. that reflects the beautiful side of life and window-shopping satisfies our visual and aesthetic sense as well as our love for freedom,
