entirely exhausted and the coin is found to be such a convenience that, strange to say, it is being exported to Canton where it is not a legal tender, and should possess no value beyond that of its intrinsic contents, which is ten per cent below the value assigned to it here by law.

3. As, however, the Government derives a profit on the issue of these tokens, there can be no objection to supplying the public with them to any extent that may be desired.

4. I have therefore to request that the quantity applied for in despatch No. 13 of the 10th Ultimo may be sent as soon as possible, and that it may be followed by the transmission of another 100,000 pieces - equivalent to $10,000 - to be sent in like manner overland by the Peninsular and Oriental Company's Steamer from Southampton, and a further, and third, supply of 100,000 at the end of a month after the shipment of the last. The Crown Agents will in due course be provided with funds to meet this requisition.
