LESSON SEVEN

CHAPTER TWO

Direct and Indirect Speech

Direct Speech.

In direct speech we have the exact words of the speaker.. e.g. "I am writing an essay," sala Aru Indireat Speech

In Indirect Speech (Reported Speech) we may report what the speaker said without quoting his exact words; we give the same meaning but with a different form. Thus, the words spoken are in- corporated into the structure of the main sentence, Ann said that she was writing an essay. The difference between the two forms is show. by the tense of the verb, together with change in the person of the pronouns and possessive adject- ives and of certain words that denoted nearness! in the direct term.
