гia 19 a runnel-shaped coastal
indentation formed by submergence affecting an area where bills and river valleys meet the cast at right angles. It decreases in width and depth as it runs inland. The stream which flows into its head is res mansible for eroding the original valley. A fiord is a long narrow arm of the formed by the submergence of a deep glacial: valley, with steep walls, deep water vir- tually to its head, numerous rectilinear branches, and a shallow threshold near its mouth.

Therefore, riora and a ria differ in cheir modes of formation: the former having been affected by glacial eosion and the latter, by fluvial erosion. They differ in appearance as well. A ria has gently sloping sides and it becomes progressively deeper seawards whereas a fiord is fringed by steep walls and is shallower at its seaward end than its landward end. Consequent to the above, though both provide harbourage for ships, a ria offers better possibilities for agriclture and settlement since its hinterland readily lends itself to farming and communication inland is easier.

a dendritic drainage refers to a tree= like pattern of converging tributaries apon e main river, usually located where the rocks do not vary over its basin, or where rocks are of uniform resistance to erosion
A trellised drainage refers to a recti- 110ear pattern with consequent, subsequent, obsequent and secondary consequent streame, usually occurring in scarplanda, where out-- crope of alternately more and léas reaia- tant rooke occur at right-angles to the initial slopes. The main stream follows
the dip of the land and is well definad

38. How does the sea oarry out its work of erosion, transporting, and deposition? State the forma- tion of two depositional features and four erosional features ich are represented in Bong Kong.
Ans.
HONG
The sea modifies the line where land and water meet. It erodes by corrasion, hydraulic force, and attrition. The water initially at- tacks lines of weakness to the rock face. such; as joints and bedding planes, traps presses the in gap and fissured suddently. When the wave rotrests the air expands This hydraulic con causes the rock to hatter and fall apart. Moreover, the fragments, besider being tossed about by the waves and broken dewa further into iner particles ( this is termed artition ), are used as weapons with which attack the land. This process of mechancial erosion by material transported by waves is known as corrasion.
As a wave breaker ( the swash) sweeps material obliquely up to the beach, and the backwash drage some of it down again at right angles to the shoreline, there is a net #079- mant of rock veste along the beach. Suon 8 gradual movementTM which is known as the long- #hore drift represents the work of seo trans
in, usually in sharber, or at the heads of bays where the approaching waves hava-loat their arosiva poyak.

Sea caves are formed at the base cliffs where wave action has enlarged natural lines of weakness. With prolonged wave action, a cyclindrical tunnel is.extended into the cliffs whose diameter decreases from the en-. trance.

A stack is a steop pliar of rock rising from the sea, formerly part of the land but isolated by wave action when the roof of an arch falls. It forms part of a cycle of carine erosion in the sequence: cave -
arch - stack.
A blowhole is a near vertical cleft linking a sea-cave with the surface inland of the clift- edge; spray is sometimes thrown out of the bola by compressional force of a wave surging into the cave below. It is formed by erosion concen- trated along a well-marked joint or fault ex- tending vertically from the surface into the roof of a cave.

Two depositional features are spits and tom-1 bolos.
▲ spit 19 a long, narrow accumulation or sand, and shingle, with one end attached to the Land the other projecting into the seaor across tae
an estuary. Coastal currents pick up land-derived deposits in the shallow waters the foreshore and then farther aloag the shore. These sook waste will then be re- deposited as they reach the deeper, and quieter! waters. In time, aa morëmaterial is added, it will pile up until it becomes a. spit.
