Under the High Power of the Microscope"a"single-cell
of spirogyra is seen to be composed of an outer cell- wall made of callulose and pectice substances in strata. Inside the cell is a large central vacuole
filled with cell-sap surrounded by a thin layer of
protoplasm lying under the cell wall called Cytoplasm. This forms the PRIMORDIAL UTRICLE In the cytoplasm. are embedded 1-10 apirally coiled chloroplasta
spotted all over with large Pyrenoids. The margin of the spiral chloroplasts is dentate. In the centre of
the vacuole is suspended a large nucleus by cytoplasmi strands of the primordial utricle, Sometimes the
nucleus lies' embedded in the primordial utricle on one side of the cell.
Every cell in the filament is identical in structure
and therefore a complete unit in itself. Spirogyra. 18. therefore a unicellular plant the cells living in association, in a filamentous colony.
