A. (a) How would you caculate your latitude on a clear
night?. Give diagrams and proof.
In the Northern Hemisphere we can locate
the constellation called the Great Bear or the Plough. The pointers of this group of stars point to the Fole Star, which is directly over- head the North Pole.
We then measure the angle which the Fole Star makes with the horizon with a sextant. This angle will be the latitude of that particular place. In the Southern Hemisphere the Southern} Cross can be traced and measured.
