They sabody the essential points of the prin sipal #haracters and important events in the stories of the set booka seant for the year 1965. These test papera will appear in this solumn every Tuesday and codel answers will be given the next Tuesday. It should be noted that two or three test papers may ba given so "the same set book in order to cover as many as possible the various typen of questiona that you, as a candidate, would be required to answer in the Hong Kong English School Certificate Examinations, 1963. They are designed to test your intelligence,
to give you à general revision of the set books you have studied. and to disclose how far you have assimilated them. Given in the following are some helpful hints on studying the set books. and dealing with the test papers in this column. Please read them care- fully and do your best to adhere to them throughout your studies.
1. Read the story through rather quickly and try to obtain a gen.
eral impression of it.

Read the story now carefully at least
two times. At this stage
it is usually very helpful to underline the important parts of
the story concerning the principal charactere, important evente

a hazy conception of it, you are not in a position to answer the test papers satisfactorily.
"Before you attempt to write out the answers to the teat ques
tions in this column, read the questions carefully, not once. but several times and ensure that you understand exactly what
is required.
On no account should you make any reference to the set book when answering the test questions. But if you find that you really cannot answer any given question, you may then, ad a last resort, refer to the story. If you do this, however, allow at least two of three hours elapse before writing down real presentation your answers, otherwise they will not be
of your ability and assimilation. And, moreover, if you are compelled to refer to a set book or your notes for an answer,
it only proves that your study has not been aufficiently

After you have given an answer, read it carefully to ensure that
it is perfectly free from faults of grammar, spelling or punctua- $100, and that it expresse's clearly and unambiguously the exact
meaning you intend to convey in your answer, Remember, spelling
mistakes and other grammatical errors will be penalised when you are sitting for the actual examination.
It is a good plan to make a point of obtaining copies of two or
