Major Caines entered the Service in November 1813 was employed in the Nepaul War - of 1814, and 1815. And in Action with the Enemy on the 31st January 1815, when in the Light Company of 17th Foot, was in the War of the Deccan in 1817 and 1818, and engaged with the Enemy at Jubbulpoor on the 19th December 1817,
when he planted the Regimental Colour of his Regiment, and destroyed in single Combat the Arab Chief Commanding on the Mussulman Saints Tomb at Jubbulpoor present during the siege of Bhurtpore when he volunteered the Forlorn Hope, and was wounded in the assault whilst
