I cannot find out what knowledge of Chinese Mr. Mitchell possesses: but I have an impression that both he and Mr Inglis understand the language in some degree.
Mr Inglis is the Acting servant; he joined it in March 1844, & has had promotion lately. Mr. Mitchell entered it in April /50, and has not had promotion.
