Hardly understoods that decisions of Her Majesty's Government are influenced by misconceptions. I am now inclined to think that a misconception has arisen from the fact that subsequently to the date of Lord Stanley's Despatch, Her Majesty's Government has granted a pension, though a small one, to Mr. J.R. Michels, on his retirement from the public service of this Colony. I infer from the terms of your Despatch No. 112 of 26th September last, in which that grant is notified, that the pension is provided from Imperial and not Colonial funds.
