of being able to afford him the justice of examining his servant and interpreter, Sye Asi, before calling upon him to answer to a charge, of which if innocent that witness's evidence might go far to clear him (although the same evidence would, if guilty, undoubtedly go as far the other way) - I have not, until this morning, served him with a copy, nor even put the parchment original upon the file. As I did not wish to restrict his time for preparing his defence to the allotted five days, I have at length caused those two last steps to be taken; - and he is this morning served with a copy of the Information filed of record. On the back of that Information I have caused Lye Asi's name to be entered as a witness. The neglect with which my applications to His Excellency have been treated has so far answered the defendant's purpose, that at this moment I am quite ignorant whether Lye Asi, if called, will prove a witness for the Crown, as stated by You Ryving, the Turnkey, or a witness for the defendant,
