BRITAIN DISPUTES BAHREIN CLAIM.

(THROUGH REUTER'S AGENCY.]

LONDON, February 29th. The amall Bahrein Islanda in the Persian Gulf, which have no pol tical importance, but are interesting historically, as they are reputed to be the original home of the Phoenicians, have become a bone, of contention between Perain Great Britain.

and

At the present time, they are ruled by a Sheikh under the pro- tection of Great Britain.

The islands were mentioned in the Anglo Herjaz Treaty last year, upon which Persin challenged the British right to deal with them, and protested to Britain and members of the League of Nations, claiming them as a Perrian possession.

Sir Austen Chamberlain has vigorously replied denying Persia's rights either geographically ethnologically.
