Of the cargo for Hongkong, each Bri- tish yessel arriving contributed to the total of 6,595 tons brought by them com bined. The best returns were 1,073 tons and 2,300 tons of general cargo and 1,800 tons of rice and general cargo. Of the remaining 2,394 tons in vessels of other nationalities, the best return was 1,18 freight for ports beyond, four British tons of general cargo. With regard to Fessels carried 10,288 tons between them, and two vessels of other nationalties carried 7,400 tons, a Dutch steamer con tributing 6,900 tons of this amount.

VESSELS IN DOCK.

The following vessels are in Dock:- At Taikoo Helena, Liangchow, Anomia, Hanyang, Tai Lee, Sai On... Hang Cheng, Kwangchow, Shing Cheong and Tjimanock.

"At Kowloon:-Tai Tack and Fuen Sang.

Ten persons were killed and as injured when a tanker suddenly exploded in dry dock here yesterday. The vessel in ques- tion was the Rogo Maru, formerly the British vessel Antherill which was recepti ly bought by the Nippor. Tanker Co. The killed and injured were workmen who were busy overhauling the ship. The actual cause is yet the subject of an inquiry, but it is believed that there was some oil in the tank and that the in tense heat induced spontaneous combus- tion, resulting in the explosion.

Jr. Alfred Steel, of Kirton, South Lin- colnshire, has retired after thirty-one years' service as postman, during which sime he has covered on foot, and later on cycle, 112,320 miles. He has resided in the same period has been a member of the same house for thirty years, and for the Kirton Brass Band, whilst for twenty- four years he was secretary of the Kirton and District Pig Club.

The force of the explosion was so great that it rocked the ground around for hundreds of yards. Some thought it was an earthquake and fled into the open from the offices in which they were working. When news of the accident became known, the dock was crowded with the wives and children of the men known to be at work on the tanker and their wails and lamentations added to the general confusion.

The Royo Haru was bought by Japanese interests only three days ago. She is of 10,000 tons gross and was sold for Yen 700,000.
