Mere men always tell me that there are no "interesting fashions in Hongkong that there is nothing new and that the only fashionable dresses are worn by tourists or passengers of the boats. There may be a grain of truth in this statement but I saw last week an outst that certainly belongs to the latest fashion stage. It is the long jacket or coat that comes down to one's knees and

The famous gingham, at one time used only for kitchen aprons and housedresses, is a very suitable material for children's clothes. It can easily be embroidered with a few cross-stitches that take little time and have a splendid effect. Dresses of this material lock always fresh and are excellent for play:

Another excellent material. although there seems to be little in the Colony just now, is voile. It hardly shows wrinkles and does not show dust as other material does. It is easily washed in lukewarm water after being soaked for a while,

Rouges and Colour Schemes.

We have all probably noticed that more rouge and lipstick are required with cer tair colours than with others. Certain make-ups look almost theatrical with green and quite ordinary with orchid Whether one uses more or less rouge with A colour scheme is largely a matter of taste and type, hat every costume colour makes its own particular demands. Blue and white require very little; the brown,

When yellow and orchid "shades more. Wearing a rose-red frock, orange rouge should not be used. A rose lipstick with hanna will look purple.

Green requires less rouge than any other colour. With white the make-up should be very subtle. If natural colour is unbecomingly lacking in the skin it may be supplied by a healthy glow of rouge, suggested rather than" too insistently de fined.

Make-up around the eyes does not look well in the day-time. It is too artificial. There may be exceptions of course bus it is usually beneficial to do without mascars or the eye pencil until evening. Hair Treatment,

Marks on Ivory Dressing-Table Sets.

The best way to remove marks on dress-, jag table sets is to rub them with a little furniture cream on a clean rng, and polish with a dry duster.
