HOW U.S. SUBJECTS SPENT IT. Independence Day, was quietly celes brated by the American community in Hongkong on Saturday.
By reason of the prevailing conditions, the usual "At Home" which takes place at the American Consulate, was not, held: special At the Hongkong Hotel dinner had been arranged, and the Grill Rooni was well Alled with American and British diners.

THE JUNE SETTLEMENT. BILL TO PROVIDE FOR THE POSTPONEMENT,
At a meeting of the Legislative Council which has been called for July, it is proposed to introduce a Bill relating to the postponement of the June wettlement.
The object of the Bill is to provide for the postponement of the date of the June settlement from the gird day of June till the 14th day of July, 1925, and to validate, notwithstanding such post- ponemout “every contract for the pur chase or sale of shares for, the Jane settle ment day and every contract for the carrying over of shares until the Inne settlerent day."-The Bill also provides for the payment of interest at the rate of 3 per cent. per annum, during auch period of postponement, in respect of every sum of money due and payable under the above contracts on June settle ment day.
