MAILS, BY AIR.
NEW SERVICE STARTED TO GERMANY.
The development of the civilian air service is indicated by the announcement of the Postmaster-General of the coin. mencement of a new service of air mail's between Great Britain and Germany.
It is notified that letters may be posted for despatch by thedugh air mail from London to Bremen, Hamburg, and Ber- in the air fee being 3d. per omnes, Parcels cannot at present be sent. It is a daily service. The mails close at the G.P.O.. London, at & n.. each weck- day. Letters forwarded by the new ser vice should he delivered in Bremen. Ilum burg, and Berlin on the morning after despatch from London, or if the express fee (sd.) is prepaid, in addition to the postage ami air fee, on the evening of the day of despatch from London.
By connecting with night mail trains from Bremen, Hamburg, and Berlin, the service offers an advantage for letters for more distant destinations, notably for Copenhagen and the rest of Denmark, and for Norway and Sweden.
BY AIR TO CHANNEL ISLANDS AND CHERBOURG,
A service of hydroplanes flying to the Channel Islands and Cherbourg is to be, opened shortly from Woolston, Southamp ton. As the trip to the Channel Islands hy sea is often very rough, it is expected that the new service will be popular with visitors.
The Cherbourg section will be rum in connection with the sailings of the At- antic liners from that part, aul on the English side of the Channel trains will he run to connect with the flights.
The distance from Southampton to the Channel Islands is a little over 100 miles, and the journey will occupy about" an hour and a quarter. The nithine to be used is the super-marine Sen Eagle, which took part in the King's Cup race "rouml Britain. In its sea-going condition it will garry six passengers and a pilot n navigator.
