SALVAGE OF B. 1. STEAMER.
On behalf of the directors of the Bri- tish India Steam Navigation Co., Mr. Froom, senior partner of the firm in Bombay, presented on May 2nd a hand- some gold watch to Mr M Johnston, chief engineer of the steamer Bhadra, in appreciation of the services rendered by him in connection with the galving of the company's steamer Erinpura M Mr. Froom stated that Mr. Johnson did excellent work under most trying circumstances He stood by the Fripura in the Red Sea for eighteen months and finally was on board the vessel as her chief engineer when she was towed cross to Bombay which was a most difficult and hazardous task.
WIRELESS ON BIBBY LINERS. The following is an extract from Fur play dated March 31st. I understand that the 1-kwirolesa installations, with which all the Bibby boats have been equipped are causing much comment among the passengers on those vessels by reason of the remarkable ranges obtain ed. As instances, it may be mentioned that on her last yoyago the steamer Yorkshire was receiving press messages from American stations at a range of approximately 22,500 miles (her previous bust receiving range being" 8,000 miles) whilst the Derbyshire, dur ing the course of her present trip, has been in communication with Bombay at distance of
།
1-1,700
miles.
