PRESENTATION OF PLATE,

On Wednesday evening the 19th inst, Lieutenant Hewett of the Indian Navy, was entertained et sup. per in the Mess-Room of the 18th R. 1. Regi and afterwards presented with a handsome Wine-cooler, the production of Canton, which reflected the great- est credit on the maker; the surface was covered with raised representations of Chinese customs and manners; except a small portion containing the

following inscription.

"Presented to Lient. Hewatt I. N. by Brigadier "Campbell C. B. and the officers of the Chusan Field Force 1844. In testimony of the esteein

• entertained towards him for his uniform civility and kindness. while serving on that Station, in Command of the H. E. L. Company's Steamer Medusa".

It was presented in the name of the subscribers in a short and appropriate speech by Capt. Graves 18th R. I. Regt., and was neknowledged by Licut,

Hewett, who was much affected, with great feeling.
