said CHARLES RICHARD ALFORD to be Bishop of the said See in manner accustomed, and diligently to do and perform all other things appertaining to his Office in this behalf, with effect. And We do ordain and declare that the said CHARLES RICHARD ALFORD So by Us nominated and appointed after having been ordained and consecrated, as aforesaid, may, by virtue of such appointment and consecration, enter into and possess the said Bishop's See as the Bishop thereof, without let or impediment from Us, Our Heirs and Successors for the term of his natural life, subject, nevertheless, to the right of resignation hereinbefore mentioned, and in the above recited Letters Patent particularly set forth, and may per- form in the said Diocese of Victoria all the functions peculiar and appropriate to the Office of a Bishop. And We declare Our pleasure to be that all provisions whatever contained in the said recited Letters Patent, so far as they relate to the said GEORGE SMITH and his Successors, Bishops of Victoria, shall apply to the said CHARLES RICHARD ALFORD so long as he shall be and remain Bishop of that Diocese. And to the end that all things aforesaid may be firmly holden and done, We Will and Grant to the aforesaid CHARLES RICHARD ALFORD that he shall have Our Letters Patent under Our Great Seal of Our said United Kingdom duly made and sealed.

In Witness whereof We have caused these Our Letters to be made Patent.

Witness Ourself at Westminster the Fourteenth day of January in the Thirtieth Year of Our Reign.

On Saturday, the Second day of February, in the Year of Our Lord, One thousand Eight hundred and Sixty-seven, and in the Fifth Year of the Translation of the Most Reverend Father in GOD, CHARLES THOMAS by Divine Providence Lord Archbishop of Canterbury, Primate of all England and Metropolitan in the Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Christ in the City of Canterbury.

The said Most Reverend Father in GOD, CHARLES THOMAS, Lord Archbishop of Canterbury, by virtue and authority of certain Letters Patent of Her Most Gracious Majesty and Our Sovereign Lady VICTORIA by the Grace of GoD of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, QUEEN, Defender of the Faith (and so forth) and dated at Westminster the Fourteenth Day of January, in the Thieth Year of Her said Majesty's Reign, to him the said Most Reverend Father in this behalf directed (The Right Reverend Father in GOD, SAMUEL, Lord Bishop of Oxford, JOSEPH COTTON, Lord Bishop of Rochester, FRANCIS, Lord Bishop of Montreal (Metropolitan), The Bishop of Illinois in the United States of America, HENRY LASCELLES, Lord Bishop of Dunedin in New Zealand, and Doctor GEORGE SMITH, late Bishop of Victoria assisting him) consecrated the Reverend CHARLES RICHARD ALFORD, Clerk, Master of Arts, named and appointed to be Bishop of the See and Diocese of Victoria, he having at the appointed time of the said Consecration taken the Oath of due obedience to the said Most Reverend Father in GOD, CHARLES THOMAS, Lord Archbishop of Canterbury, the rites, circum- stances and ceremonies anciently used in the Church of England being observed and applied according to the form and manner prescribed in the Book entitled "The form and manner of making and con- secrating Bishops, Priests, and Deacons" in the presence of the FRANCIS HART DYKE, Notary Public, Principal Registrar of the Province of Canterbury, there being then and there also present The Right Worshipful TRAVERS TWISS, Doctor of Laws, Vicar General of the said Most Reverend Father with many others then and there assembled.

We the underwritten Notaries Public by Royal Authority duly admitted and sworn residing at Doctors Commons in the City of London, do hereby certify and attest to all to whom it may concern that FRANCIS HART DYKE whose Name is subscribed to the foregoing Act was and is a Notary Public and that the Letters Names and Words thereto subscribed were and are of the proper handwriting and subscription of the said FRANCIS HART DYKE, that we were present and saw him sign the same and that full faith and entire credit is and ought to be given to all Acts subscriptions and attestations of the said FRANCIS HART DYKE as well in Judgment as out.
