HYDROGRAPHIC NOTICE: AUSTRALIA DIRECTORY, VOL. II. Torres Strait—Western Channels.
Fortmaster of Brisbane, Queensland, has forwarded the following information relative to a small sunken rock off East Island, near Cape York, obtained from Captain Edwards, of the ship Melanie.*
(All bearings are Magnetic. Variation 4°50′ easterly in 1870.)

Awards Rock. This rock was scen from the Melanie in June 1839, while working up from Wednesday Island.
rock the peak of Pole Island was just in sight to the eastward of Double Island, Strait rock open to the northward od Hill on Horn Island, and the south point of Hammond Island well open of the south point of Wednesday Island. The rock is very small, probably 20 feet square, and considered to have about six feet water on it. From the above
appears to lie S. W. about 13 miles from East Strait Island.
