On the 17th at 1.25 p.-"The barometer has fallen considerably over the Loochoos and S.W. Japan, and is very little changed in other areas. The typhoon appears to be now moving Northwards to the E.S.E. of the Loochoos. There are indications also of the exist- ence of a shallow depression to the S.W. of Formosa. Fresh N.E. winds are likely to prevail in the Formosa Channel, and variable winds over the N. part of the China Sea." Forecast "E. to N. winds, moderate; fair."

On the 18th at 12.50 p.—“The barometer has fallen rapidly over E. Japan, particularly at Tokio. It has risen moderately to slightly over China, Formosa and the Philippines. The typhoon is moving N. E. and approaching the S.E. coast of Japan in the neighbourhood of Yokohama. Pressure is high over China to the North of the Upper Yangtze, and the normal is now attained along the China coast. Fresh N.E. winds are expected to prevail in the Formosa Channel, and along the Northern shores of the China Sea.'

Forecast:- "N. to N.E. winds, moderate or fresh; showery."

On the 19th at 11.45 a. "The barometer has fallen quickly in E. Hokkaido owing to the typhoon, which is moving away over the Pacific to the E. of Japan. Pressure has in- creased elsewhere, considerably over S. Japan, and molerately over China and the Philippines. It remains high over China to the North of the Upper Yangtze, and the normal is now ex- ceeded by from 0.1 to 0.05 inch along the China coast, and over Formosa and Luzon. Fresh N.E. winds are expected to prevail in the Formosa Channel, and the N. part of the China Sea." Forecast :-"N.E. winds, fresh; fair."

On the 20th at 11.55 a.“The barometer has a tendency to fall over China. It has risen considerably in E. Japan. Except over E. Hokkaido, pressure is in slight to moderate excess of the normal generally. The highest pressure is lying over China to the North of the Upper Yangtze, and the lowest probably in about 15° Lat. both over the China Sea and Pacific. Gradients are slight. Moderate N.E. winds are expected to prevail in the Formosa Channel, and the N. part of the China Sea." Forecast:- N.E. winds moderate; fine."

On the 21st at 11.55 a.- The barometer has risen moderately in E. Japan, and fallen sharply in W. Japan. A slight decrease of pressure has taken place also over China and the Philippines. A shallow depression has appeared over the Eastern Sea between Meiaco Sima and S.W. Japan. Pressure is high over the N.E. part of the Sea of Japan, and also over China to the North of the Upper Yangtze. Moderate or fresh N. and N.E. winds may be expected in the Formosa Channel, and the N. part of the China Sea." Forecast : winds, moderate; fair."

On the 22nd at 11.55 a.- 66

The barometer has risen moderately on the E. coast of China, and is little changed at the Southern stations. Yesterday afternoon the shallow depression was over S.W. Japan, and moving, apparently, to the N.E. The Japanese returns of this morning are not yet to hand. Gradients are slight on the China coast, and moderate N.E winds are expected to prevail in the Formosa Channel, and the N, part of the China Sea." Forecast:- "N.E. and E. winds, moderate; showery."

On the 23rd at 11.45 a "The barometer has fallen moderately in N.E. Japan, and risen considerably over S. Japan. The shallow depression is moving away over the Pacific to the E. of Japan. Pressure has increased and is slightly above the normal along the China coast. It is norma but has a tendency to give way over the Philippines. The highest pressure is over N. China and the Sea of Japan, the lowest over the Pacific to the E. of the Philippines. Fresh N.E. winds are expected to prevail in the Formosa Channel, and the N. part of the China Sea." Forecast:- “N.E. and E. winds, moderate or fresh ; showery."

On the 24th at 11.45 a.- "The barometer has risen moderately in E. Japan, and no marked change has taken place in other areas. There is still a tendency for pressure to give way over Luzon. Pressure is high over the N.E. part of the Sea of Japan, the normal being exceeded by about 0.25 inch over E. Japan. Over the Philippines the mercury stands. near its average point. The lowest pressure appears to be lying over the Pacific to the N.E. of Luzon. Fresh N.E. winds may be expected in the Formosa Channel, and the N. the China Sea." Forecast:-" E. to N.E. winds, moderate; showery."

On the 25th at 11.55 a. "The barometer has fallen slightly over the China coast, Formosa and Luzon. An area of low pressure, apparently shallow, appears to be situated in the neighbourhood of N. Luzon. The returns from Japan and Aparri are, however, not yet to hand. Pressure is highest over China to the North of the Upper Yangtze. It is normal over the China coast and Formosa, and in slight defect in S. Luzon. Fresh N.E. winds are expected to prevail in the Formosa Channel and along the Northern shores of the China Sea." Forecast:-"N.E. winds, moderate or fresh ; fair."
