The following Notice to Mariners, received from the Government of Ceylon, is published for general information.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.

Notice is hereby given of the existence of a coral reef and rock on the west coast of Ceylon, which are not marked on the Admiralty Chart. Particulars as follows:-

Reef-About 3 of a mile long running parallel with the shore, and mile broad, with soundings on it of 31, 4, 44, and 5 fathoms, 84 fathoms close in shore of it, and 9 fathoms close outside of it. The 3 fathoms patch, which is on its southern end, bears from Kalutara Fort W. S. distant 24 miles.

Rock-lies 24 miles from Barberyn Island, with 34 fathoms water on it, and 13 fathoms close to it. From it Barberyn Island bears E. 22° S., and Beach hill E. 34° N.

Notice has been received from the Commissioner of Customs at Foochow, that the Beacon, No. 16, List of Chinese Lighthouses, Lightve sels, Buoys and Beacons, on the southern end of the Middle Dog Island, has been blown down, and will not be rebuilt.
