No. 540.-It is hereby notified, with regard to the restrictions placed upon the importation of certain articles into the United Kingdom, that bona fide gifts of tea, up to the weight allowed by the postal regulations, and of sugar in parcels not exceeding one pound in weight are admitted, if sent through the parcel post.

No. 541. The following Passport Regulations proclaimed by the Government of Ceylon are published for general information.

No person coming from any country except India to this Colony shall land within this Colony, unless he has in his possession a passport issued to him not more than two years previously by the proper authority of the State of which he is a subject or a citizen, to which passport there shall be attached a photograph of the person to whom it relates.

2. Any person who lands or attempts to land in this Colony who is prohibited from so doing by the previous regulation, and any person who knowingly aids and abets any such person in so landing or attempting to land, shall be guilty of an offence, and shall be liable on summary conviction to imprisonment, rigorous or simple, not exceeding six months, or to a fine not exceeding one thousand five hundred rupees, or to both.

3. Any person prohibited under section 1 aforesaid landing or attempting to land in contravention of the said section shall be liable to arrest and detention by any Police officer or Customs officer.

4. Nothing in these regulations shall apply to any person landing under a special permit in writing issued by the Colonial Secretary, the Principal Collector of Customs, or the Inspector-General of Police, and acting in accordance with the conditions of such permit.

No. 542.--The following Order in Council which appeared in the London Gazette of the 2nd October, 1917, is published for general information.

THE KING'S MOST EXCELLENT MAJESTY IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS

HEREAS by Section 80 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1906, power is given to His Majesty, by Order in Council, to make Regulations as to the manner in which Government Ships may be registered as British Ships under the Merchant Shipping Acts:

And whereas by the said Section it is provided that those Acts shall, subject to any exceptions or modifications which may be made by Order in Council, either generally or as respects any special class of such Ships, apply to such Ships when registered in accordance with such Regulations:

And whereas the provisions of Section 1 of the Rules Publication Act, 1893, have been complied with :

Now, therefore, His Majesty, by virtue of the powers in this behalf by the said Act, or otherwise, in Him vested, is pleased, by and with the advice of His Privy-Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, that the following Regulations shall have effect as regards any Government Ships in the service of the Shipping Controller :--
