Dear Rod
Amnesty
World Conference on Human Rights (WCBR) : Proposal for a National Review on
Protection of Human Rights
We are in receipt of the attached letter from International (AI) calling on the Hong Kong Government to make use of the opportunity of the WCHR to initiate a 'National Review' on the extent to which international human rights convenants have been inplemented in practice. We have prepared a draft reply, and should be grateful for your clearance of it.
on
We note from AI's letter that they will be calling all
governments to initiate
Review. a National wonder whether the UK has received such a request and if so, what your response js.
As explained in the draft
reply, our own inclination is to turn down the request. But since Hong Kong will be participating in the Conference as part of the UK delegation and if you decided to initiate such a review in preparation of the Conference, we would obviously have
do likewise. I should be most grateful
to
if you could let us know what the position is by 3017002
April 93, if possible.
