Mr. Secretary Stewart, with his humble duty to
The queen, begs to submit for Your Majesty's approval
the name of Sir Ivo Charles Clayton Rigby for
apointment as Chief Justice, Hong Kong, in succession
to Sir Michael Hogan.
Sir Ivo Rigby who was born on 2 June, 1911, was
educated at Magdalen College School, Oxford.
He was
colled to the Bar by the Inner Temple in June 1932,
and practiced in London until October 1935. In that
month he was appointed to the Colonial Legal Service
and posted to The Gambia as a Police Magistrate.
I 1938 he was transferred to Palestine as a Chief
Magistrate and promoted to Crown Council in 1942,
He was
a to President, District Court in 1946.
again transferred in 1948, to Nyasaland as an
Assistant Judge, and in November 1954 he became
President of the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur,
Federation of Malaya. During 1956 he acted as a
Puisne Judge and was confirmed in this post during
1957. Since August 1961 he has served in Hong Kong
as Senior Puisne Judge, and has frequently acted as
Chief Justice.
