Indeed it might take some little time before there was a decision though some thought had been given to having some forces

in Australis. Tun Razak asked whether when British forces were withdrawn

they would leave their heavy equipment behind. Mr. Healey replied that

the units to be withdrawn would normally take their equipment with them but

the question of stock-piles had not yet been properly examined.

13. Mr. Healey stressed the need to avoid "consultations" taking place

accompanied by a large amount of highly speculative publicity. This

helped no-one and he hoped the Malaysians would stress this to their

allies.

Mr. Healey took the opportunity of mentioning that the High

Commissioner would shortly be handing over details of support cost charges

for British assistanco in Eastern Malaysia. He thought that a very

favourable basis had been achieved.
