Macao.

Hong Kong Left Wing press today prints on front page, but not in prominent position, an article saying that the people of Macao advise the Government not to delay any further in accepting Chinese demands. The Governor is said to be "defrauding the compatriots": he must be straight in his dealings. Some compatriots are said to have suggested that if the delays continue the Governor should leave Macao.

20

A leading member of the Taipa Island School Committee is quoted as saying that all responsibility for not completing the negotiations lies with the Macao Government and advising compatriots if this state of affairs continues not to pay taxes nor to do business with the Portuguese, nor supply them with food nor work for them nor work in Macao harbour.

(Passed to D.S.A.0. for repetition to Lisbon, Peking and.

Washington)
