Macau.

A boycott involving non-payment of taxes by Chinese, refusal to sell goods to the Portuguese Government and officials of Portuguese nationality, and a boycott of Portuguese officials by all service trades in the city was put into effect on

25th January and is still continuing. It appears to be effective but so far has not given rise to any incidents. It is being applied solely to the categories of person named above:

H.M. Consulate Macau for instance has so far not been inconvenienced.

We now learn however

that at a meeting in Chinese territory on 27th January general agreement was reached with the Portuguese on all points of the four conditions laid down by the Kwangtung Foreign Affairs section. Subsequently the Governor reached general agreement with the 13 member Macau All Circles Delegation on their six demande. was agreed that he should go to the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce to sign an agreement on the afternoon of 29th January: and that the three member Portuguese delegation should go to China at the same time to sign an agreement with the Kwangtung representatives. The agreement is due to be announced on 30th January,

Hong Kong left-wing press today quotes a representative of the Kwangtung Foreign Affairs Bureau as having yesterday accused the Governor on familiar lines of delaying tactics. It seems possible however that this story was printed before agreement was reached.
