Immediately set free all the arrested

These demands were referred to in a later interview
with our Chargé d'Affaires as "the five points of the
Chinese Government".
Chinese Chargé complained of failure to reply to the
"five Chinese demands" and demanded:-
(a) Persecution in Hong Kong should cease;
(b) H.M.G. should immediately accept five
"solemn and just" Chinese demands;
(c) H.M.G. should make an immediate reply.
Chinese Foreign Ministry statement mentioned the
"five demands".
Lord Beswick said in a debate in the House of Lords:
"The noble Earl, Lord Bessborough, asked about the "Five
demands". We have not, as he thought, answered them.
